Green Roof And Vegetable Patch - Green Thumb Sunday

The Green Roof on my shed has surpassed all my expectations even before any of the seeds have come into flower.
My neighbours are loving it to and it causes quite a lot of comment from the ones that can see it.
The vegetable patch is also doing very nicely and it wont be long before the first veggies sampled. The radishes are growing by the minute and I reckon we will be eating them by next weekend.
I do seem to be suffering a little from sudden veggie death syndrome. After a bit of investigation I discovered it was leatherjackets who were destroying the vegetables by eating their roots. I don't know of any way to stop them at the moment and all I can do is be vigilant. If any one knows of a way to deal with them and would still allow me to eat the vegetables I would be grateful for the information.
Finally, whilst checking out the garden for slugs and other unwanted pests I did come across a bit of worm loving taking place at the foot of the vegetable patch.
I shall wish you all a good gardening day and enjoy those cold beers at the end of another lovely spring day.

Love the roof mark, but I knew I would. A lovely miniature garden, so very pretty.
The only cure I know for leather jackets is a flock of starlings. Not very practical eh!!!! They are the only thing that have kept my lawn going. We get hundreds and hundreds of craneflys here. We have them in the garden now. So I always have a lawn full fo these pests, hooray for starlings, thats what I say.
Trust you to find the worms, you are a guy after my own heart!!!
I too love the roof. I particularly love the way you have used some small logs and pebbles to create an interesting and beautiful environment for the pretty flowers. What a great idea. No advice on leatherjackets - here in Australia they are quite a yummy fish.
The roof garden is really lovely. I think it is well worth all the work you put into it! As much as I know worms are of great value to gardens, I am just repulsed by them. I just hate looking at them, even in photos! I try to control my revulsion, but it overtakes me every time. Yuk!! Not as bad as the slugs you've shown before, though.
Happy GTS,
Aiyana
The roof has come a long way and it's looking great. I bet you're getting comments from the neighbors. One doesn't expect to look up and see a garden on a roof.
Your roof-garden is great! I don't know a thing about leatherjackets, though.
What a lovely shed roof Mark - nice one.
You can get nematodes for leather jackets - but that is for treating the lawn not veg, perhaps if you treat your lawn that may help (Do you have a lawn?)

Karen
