Aliens Are Vegetables...

Well they are at least in my garden

These carrots are the first ones to come out of my raised bed this year. I was hoping that they would be a bit straighter, as I filled the bed with not too lumpy compost. The carrots seem to have not taken much notice of this and have sprouted additional arms and legs. Well at least they allowed us to have a more interesting meal with them. Also on the plus side they tasted wonderful.

I still get excited about picking something from my back garden and eating it a few minutes later.

I do though seem to be developing a theme of growing alien vegetables, as you can see from the parsnips from last year.

Those are funny. They really look like they could get up and walk (squiggle?) away.

I wonder what causes this condition. Could it be that the soil is too compacted at a certain point, and the things get deformed? I can understand one or two, but two different types of veggies? Definitely a cause for this.
